I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#22823) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
My journey studying psychology began over 10 years ago when I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina Asheville. At this time, I began working in mental health doing behavioural therapy for the Autism Society of North Carolina. After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I furthered my interest in the mind-body connection and studied massage therapy, yoga, and naturopathy. After practicing as a massage therapist and teaching yoga for a few years, I decided to return to my original passion and obtain a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Adler University in Vancouver. Currently as a somatic therapist I draw from my previous education in anatomy and physiology, as well my training in Somatic Experiencing which is a trauma-informed school of somatic psychotherapy.
I have a passion for helping others overcome life’s obstacles. I take an active, non-judgemental role in the therapy process working in collaboration with you to improve your quality of life. As a Queer man, I also have a passion for working with 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying individuals who may confront a myriad of barriers in accessing Queer affirming care. I have a focus on somatic and mindfulness-based therapy. Through these practices you will learn tools to re-wire your nervous system and create new, healthier patterns that help you to live a rich and meaningful life. I am also a certified Heartmath biofeedback practitioner and incorporate these tools in my practice.
Somatic Experiencing is a therapeutic approach aimed at resolving trauma and stress by focusing on bodily sensations and physical experiences. Through gentle guidance and attention to the body's natural responses, it helps individuals release stored tension, restore resilience, and cultivate a deeper sense of well-being. This holistic method offers a pathway towards healing that honors the interconnectedness of mind and body.
HeartMath is a scientifically validated system that utilizes biofeedback technology to help individuals reduce stress, improve resilience, and enhance emotional well-being by synchronizing their heart rhythms with positive emotions. Through simple yet effective techniques, HeartMath empowers users to cultivate inner balance, leading to greater coherence between heart, mind, and body for optimal performance and vitality.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a cutting-edge therapeutic approach that emphasizes mindfulness, acceptance, and behavioral change strategies to help individuals live more fulfilling lives. By fostering psychological flexibility and empowering clients to embrace their values while letting go of unhelpful thoughts and emotions, ACT facilitates meaningful transformation and lasting personal growth.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a evidence-based therapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors to promote mental wellness. By providing practical tools and techniques, CBT empowers individuals to overcome challenges, manage stress, and achieve their goals for a happier, more fulfilling life.
Person-Centered Therapy is a compassionate and client-centered approach that prioritizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness to foster self-discovery and personal growth. Through a collaborative therapeutic relationship, individuals are empowered to explore their experiences, emotions, and values, leading to greater self-awareness and fulfillment.
